Ardmore Street, Wanaka Lakefront
I suspect this park is world famous. Officially titled “Roys Bay Recreational Reserve”, it’s even subtitled “Dinosaur Park” on google maps and in official council advertising.
Its main attraction, unsurprisingly, is its huge dinosaur slide. Many a debate has been had over what kind of dinosaur it is. All we can say is it has a long neck, long tail and heavy body. That’s enough to keep even Mr6 happy.
Other features of the park include a circle of big kid swings, a couple of baby swings, and a few climbing / spinning features. There are some seating platforms that I believe in summer have a sun shade over them, and in winter are slightly sheltered from the strong wind whistling off the lake by the scrim of trees.
There are toilets just across the carpark (watch out for busses and campervans moving in the area), and loads of parking nearby. While you’re there, head to the nearby pier and check out the Pateke (diving ducks) and the HUGE eels that hang around there.
